Engine:In the preparations for the trip we took apart the engine down to the last nut and bolt, replaced the cylinderheads, pistons and cylinder, "pleuellager" (wer weiß das Wort auf English?)and all the little rubber washers we could find, then we built it all back together again (leaving out a couple of screws, they can't have been too important)
The Motor now looks and runs like new and the only person who has 100% faith in us is our mechanic: Max Brugger, who says the van make the trip 3 times over!

Electricity: We built in a second battery for all our labour saving devices e.g.: dishwasher, microwave, washing machine... (in our dreams). It's actually for all those little things that alone only need a small amount of electricity, but used all together drain your battery
and make you wish you'd used a magazine to fan your face instead of the 3-Speed oscillating ventilator.

Technical instruments: To bring Lucky Luke into the 20th Century just in time for the 21st we added a few clever gadgets to our list of "necessities". So we now have a super-modern-high-tech van featuring a swivelling dashboard illuminating compass, an outside/inside digital thermometer and a plug into the cigarette lighter alarm system. Not bad for an old VW Camper.

Emergencies: The strange metal and wooden boxes situated left and right on the back of the roof rack could be mistaken for rather large speakers for blasting the neighbours with or for suitcases or ears? But the have in fact a better purpose in life. They house the emergency water and petrol cans (not to be confused with one and other). So that hopefully we won't be stranded in some bleak and barren spot with only petrol to drink.
Also fitting into the category "emergency" is the bull/roo bar (not actually fitted yet) which will hopefully accompany us our travels and fend off any unwanted animals/objects/people.

Shark: The shark on our roof has a number of uses. First and probably most important is it's ability to scare Pakistani truck drivers into getting onto their side of the road (hopefully!)
It's also quite handy for storing all the things that are necessary for such a trip, i.e.: 270 jars of baby food, 780 Nappies etc.
And of course it's a great advert for this web-site!
